Q: When can I start to join this project?
A: You are allowed to choose your own time to start the service. The setup time
could be between 3-7 business days.
Q: Could I switch to this discounted
plan if I am already a regular AT&T Wireless customer?
A: Yes. You could switch to your chosen plan and keep your current phone number.
Q: I am using an AT&T prepaid phone.
Could I switch into your plan? Could I keep my current phone number?
A: You could switch into our plan immediately. However, you could not keep your
current phone number since AT&T has reserved all the prepaid numbers for its
prepaid services.
Q: Could I pick up any area code and
phone number?
A: You could ask for any area code you want. The typical way is to match the area
code to your zip code so that you are assigned a local phone number. For example,
zip code 13210 will be matched to 315. However, you could not choose the last 7
digits of your 10 digits phone number. You have to accept the 7 digits assigned
to you.
Q: Could I switch to this discounted
plan if I am a customer of another cell phone operator such as Verizon or T-mobile?
A: Yes. You could switch to your chosen plan and keep your current phone number.
However, you need to clean up all the financial liability with your current operator,
including possible contract break penalty fees. A form of “Porting
Information” needs to be filled for AT&T to switch your line and keep
your phone number.
Q: Is the $16 for unlimited text messages
only for domestic or does it include the international messages?
A: It is for domestic only. AT&T has separate charges for international text
messages. You are also allowed to pick other text message plans such as $5 for 200
messages.
Q: Can I make change to the plan for
specific months (say, increase to 900 mins for the next month)?
A: You are allowed to make changes. But, you have to notice us at least one month
in advance and have to stay in one plan for at least 3 months.
Q: What kind of cell phones might I
expect to have for a new 2-year contract?
A: A list of free and discounted phones for 2-year contract users are published
in this website under the icon “Phones and Accessories”.
Q: If I am bringing in a GSM phone
from China, how do I know if it will work in your plan?
A: Please check it out on this website - Check Phone Compatibility. In general, when your phone supports
all the four frequency bands (800, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz), it will work in our
plan. However, some phones only support 2 or 3 frequency bands and they might not
be able to receive signals in a particular area for our plans.
Q: How could I pick up a RIGHT cell
phone operator and plan in US in general?
A: Please read this guidance written by Professor Alex Tan: Chapter Six – Use Wireless Telephone (in English).
